The Angel in the Sky

http://www.debsphotographs.com/uploaded_images/share7-783688.jpg

Well, this isn't one of my pics, but I posted it anyway. It is from a photographer who has been closely following a 7 year old boy with cancer. She photographs him all the time to get the word out about childhood cancer. When she left one of her photo shoots she swears she saw this angel in the sky....

I came across her work through my friend Amy's site. Amy has a 3 year old little girl with neuroblastoma who is in the picu right now and not in good shape. Arden desperately needs whatever prayers you have. Pray that she will be able to breath on her own again and that the viruses will stop attacking her while she is weak. Pray that she will be able to open her eyes again soon and see her mommy and daddy again. Pray that she snaps out of this as fast as she snapped into it. Arden has been in the hospital since October and they thought she would come home in July.

Please go to this blog and read about Max and his photographer. No child should have to go through this. If you ever need help putting your life in perspective. If you ever need to refocus your priorities. If you ever need a jolt to do something for someone else... come back and read this again and again.

Favorite Foto Friday (#4)

This pic is from when we were in Rhode Island last summer visiting with our friends AJ and Brian. We went to see a bike race in Providence and we ran from stop to stop to see the cyclists go by. Brian was helping Noah to cheer. The picture just reminds me how fast life passes us by. Noah is so much bigger now and so much different and yet this was just last summer.

All Dressed Up...

and we missed the event. boo hiss. We tried our very best to do our church service at 9 and a friend's at 10:45 (we left ours after the sermon), but we showed up just 5 minutes too late to catch Cora's baptism. Bummer. But we got to see how pretty she looked!

Of course, Noah had his happy pants on and cried through the entire reception (because he couldn't eat cookies for lunch), except when he was pretending he was an elephant. He was sweet with Cora though....

Good thing he's really darn cute...

Congratulations baby Cora. May God guide your every step....

A (long, cranky, but overall) good day

The weather was great here again... we've been very lucky this summer! We called the grandparents and asked them to join us at the zoo so we could use our pass to its fullest. Good plan.

Well, Noah has been less than chipper lately. He spends most days yelling "no," "leave me alone," or "I want it" at the top of his lungs. He managed not to disappoint with his favorite sayings all day long. He didn't want to sit in the stroller, he didn't want to wear his monkey back pack (the tail is a lead for us), and he didn't want to hold our hand. He is 33lbs and quite difficult to carry. So, transportation in general was fun. Luckily the grandparents are AWESOME and helped carry him a lot. Oh, did I mention he refused to use the bathroom in public (they were gross, in his defense) and then peed right through his lawn chair at lunch. Lovely.

We did enjoy the elephants and lions very much. We got to see the feedings today and my friend who works with the birds was there and we caught up with her. Noah is really entranced with animals and so it is always cool to see how he is naturally drawn to them. (You always have to wonder if they define their name or their name defines them...)

We made it home in one piece only to have Noah wake up in the foulest of moods. He threw everything he touched, screamed at every corner and refused every offer. After several trips to time out we realized we would lose our mind if we continued. We remembered that we had a gift card to the local dairy and hopped in the car. More screaming for ice cream, a hand caught in a door, and a lot of drama later, we managed to play on the swingset for a bit, pet some more cows, and look for ladybugs. After we forced a screaming child back in the car seat, we finally headed home, hoping for an early bedtime. But as we drove, Noah said -- "Mommy, EIO" which is short for Mommy, sing Old McDonald Had a Farm. So, I started singing and we sang for so long I moved well beyond barnyard animals to monkeys and seals and elephants... try singing the song with the sound of a monkey or an elephant.... which had all three of us laughing and smiling the entire way home.

When we got in the house, Noah went right upstairs, read some books and didn't make a peep at bedtime.

It was a long, cranky, but overall good day.

P.S. -- Did I mention we saw tortoises having sex? They were LOUD!

Breakfast with friends

Noah's in a new phase where he has to bring every animal in his bed down to breakfast with him. At first we tried to resist but then we decided it wasn't so bad. I read an article about this very thing at this very age and how it is a security thing to know that you aren't alone. Plus, it's cute.

Usually the animals end up in a pile on the floor but while I was getting Noah's breakfast today he set them up next to him. So cute....

While the cat's away..

We had some work done on our house last week and while the workers were showing me how to properly clean and use the new fixtures Noah and the dog went running in circles around the house. I had to listen so I hoped they would be okay. I didn't hear screams or shrieks so I thought we were doing pretty well. Some of the workmen had to go in and out several times, each time passing the scene of the crime without sharing what they saw. Here is what the little mouse was doing while Mommy was attending to business:

This one looks like some cultic symbol

So, I told him had to clean it up and he got a huge smile on his face and danced around in a circle yelling "clean up, clean up!" Not exactly the remorseful chore I was hoping for.

Aww... my two boys. We're walking home from the park in this photo. It reminds me how much I love living in small town USA. We walk to the park, the post office, local restaurants and shops. But more than that I just love seeing my amazing husband hold my wonderful son.
