A new baby!

Our friends Doug and Lisa in Seattle decided over a year ago to enroll in an open adoption program. They were not able to conceive and thought open adoption was a good system for both the parent and the child. They filled out all of the forms, got their references and were approved as suitable candidates. The way the system works is that you are entered into a book of possible adoptive parents and the birthparents can choose you out of the book. An agreement is reached between the adoptive parents and the birth parents about what kind of involvement the birth mother can have in the child's life. Over a year ago, Doug and Lisa were ready for their baby. But, they waited and waited with no news.

Then, just a few weeks ago, they got a phone call that a baby was about to be born in Oregon and the mother had chosen them. They accepted, went to babies r us, bought everything they needed (adoptive parents are not supposed to buy things before hand in order to not get their hopes up) and waited. The next morning they got the word that a baby boy had been born and they should head to the hospital 4 hours away. Can you imagine what that car ride must have been like? Insane!!!!

So, they are home and settled now with their son Adin, just a few weeks old. I am so happy for them!!!!!! I linked to their blog on the right... the pictures make me cry. I just can't comprehend what they must be thinking and feeling. What a wonderful and sudden life change. Yippeee!!!
